Empire Magazine is going to
provide two The Force Awakens covers for collectors. The Force Awakens issue
will hit newsstands on Thursday, August 27th and will feature their first look
behind the scenes of 2015’s most important release.
According to the Electronic
Arts Star Wars page, gamers will enjoy playing Boba Fett! All fans of Star
Wars - not just DICE developers - have a special place in their hearts for this
one particular bounty hunter. As one of the iconic villains playable in Star
Wars Battlefront, Boba Fett is designed to be a dreaded force in battle. His
mobility and deadly cache of weaponry should send you fleeing if you see him on
the battlefront. Conversely, the chance to walk in his boots and try out his
arsenal is the fulfillment of a quintessential Star Wars fantasy.
His jetpack lets Boba Fett fly around the maps, making him extremely mobile
and gives him the ability to take shots from the air with his EE-3 Carbine
Rifle. He comes equipped with two wrist launchers, one armed with a rocket –
perfect for long-range attacks – and one with a Flame Blast attack for when
things get up close and personal.
Depending on your preferred play style,
Boba Fett may very well become one of your favorite Hero/Villain characters. If
you favor charging with melee attacks, characters like Luke Skywalker and Darth
Vader might be better. However, if you want to move around swiftly, keeping some
distance from your enemies, Boba Fett is for you. Mastering Boba Fett’s airborne
abilities will allow you to escape death above the ground battle on vertical
levels such as the tree huts on the forest moon of Endor.
Your chance to
try out your tactics with Boba Fett comes November 17 when the Heroes and
Villains experience of Star Wars Battlefront arrives. More info on other
characters is coming – so stay tuned.
Star Wars Rebels
Season 2 Preview at New York Comic-Con
The Official Star Wars Site has announced that on October
8, attendees will receive an exclusive sneak peek of what’s to come in the
second season of Star Wars Rebels, along with a panel featuring special
guests and a preview of two new episodes from the series.
As the second season of Star Wars Rebels opens, the crew of the
Ghost is now a very real threat to the Empire. That’s bad news, because
Darth Vader’s been assigned with the task of mopping them up. Undeterred, the
rebels seek out old friends and new allies, hoping to rally the formidable
alliance which began to crystallize at the end of Season One. Vader will
dispatch new agents to counter their growing coalition, but the Sith Lord’s
battle with the Rebels could be more personal than anyone realized.
The Star Wars Rebels panel will take place on the Empire Stage from
1:30-2:30 p.m. and be followed by an exclusive screening of two new episodes on
the same stage from 5:30-6:30 p.m. These episodes will feature the series debut
of Captain Rex, Captain Gregor, and Commander Wolffe — three clones from the hit
animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. They join another fan
favorite from the show, Ahsoka Tano, who made her Star Wars Rebels
debut in the final episode of Season One.
Star Wars Rebels returns with new episodes this fall on Disney
XD.

The Official Star Wars Site has announced that Colin Trevorrow
will direct Star Wars: Episode IX, which is set for release in 2019.
While production won’t begin for a few years, Trevorrow is heading to
Lucasfilm this year to begin working with artists and his fellow Star
Wars directors. “Colin is someone I’ve been interested in working with ever
since I saw Safety Not Guaranteed,” says Lucasfilm President Kathleen
Kennedy. “The power of that film paired with the enormous success of
Jurassic World speaks volumes about his abilities both as a storyteller
and skilled filmmaker. We are thrilled to have such an incredible talent as
Colin join our family and step into the Star Wars universe.”
Trevorrow states “This is not a job or an assignment. It is a seat at a
campfire, surrounded by an extraordinary group of storytellers, filmmakers,
artists and craftspeople. We’ve been charged with telling new stories for a
younger generation because they deserve what we all had—a mythology to call
their own. We will do this by channeling something George Lucas instilled in all
of us: boundless creativity, pure invention and hope.”
Star Wars: Episode IX will conclude the third trilogy of Star
Wars movies that begins with Star Wars: The Force Awakens on
December 18, 2015.
Resistance Fighters Unite to Steal Plans for Death Star
The Official Star Wars Site
has announced that their first film in the new standalone Star Wars stories
series, “Rogue One,” has begun principal photography. Gareth Edwards
(“Godzilla,” “Monsters”) is directing “Rogue One,” which tells the story of
resistance fighters who have united to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star.
The film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy and is slated for a December 16, 2016
release.
The filmmakers have assembled a stellar cast, including Felicity Jones,
nominated for an Academy Award® for her leading role in “The Theory of
Everything”; Diego Luna, who was featured in 2008’s Oscar®-winning “Milk” and
the critically acclaimed “Killing Them Softly”; Ben Mendelsohn, recently
nominated for an Emmy® for his leading role in “Bloodline” and co-starring in
the upcoming “Mississippi Grind”; Donnie Yen, Hong Kong action star and martial
artist who starred in “Ip Man” and “Blade II”; Jiang Wen, who co-wrote, produced
, directed and starred in the award-winning “Let the Bullets Fly” and “Devils on
the Doorstep”; Forest Whitaker, recently featured in the critically-acclaimed
Lee Daniels’ “The Butler” and winner of an Academy Award® for his leading role
in 2006’s “The Last King of Scotland; Mads Mikkelsen, who starred in “The Hunt”
and was the memorable villain from 2006’s “Casino Royale”; Alan Tudyk, who plays
a performance-capture character in “Rogue One,” stars in the soon-to-be-released
“Con Man” series and “Trumbo,” which releases this November; and Riz Ahmed, who
was recently featured in “Nightcrawler” and starred in the BAFTA-winning film
“Four Lions.”
“‘Rogue One’ takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and will
be a departure from the saga films but have elements that are familiar to the
Star Wars universe,” says Kathleen Kennedy. “It goes into new territory,
exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining
that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know. Gareth is such an
innovative director and I’m so excited to be working with him and the
extraordinary ensemble cast he’s selected for ‘Rogue One.’”
Veteran ILM visual effects supervisor John Knoll, who shares a long history
with the Star Wars movies, dating back to the mid-1990s, originated the idea for
the movie. Allison Shearmur (“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” “Cinderella”),
John Knoll, Simon Emanuel (“The Dark Knight Rises,” “Fast & Furious 6”) and
Jason McGatlin (“Tintin,” “War of the Worlds”) are executive producers. Kiri
Hart and John Swartz (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens”) are co-producers.
To create the lived-in, realistic feel of “Rogue One,” Edwards chose Greig
Fraser (“Zero Dark Thirty,” “Foxcatcher”) to be his director of photography and
Neil Corbould (“Black Hawk Down,” “Gladiator,” “Saving Private Ryan”) to be his
special effects supervisor. Star Wars and Lucasfilm veteran Doug Chiang (“Star
Wars: Episodes I-II,” “Forrest Gump”) and Neil Lamont (supervising art director
for the “Harry Potter” series, “Edge of Tomorrow”) will be the production
designers. Additional crew members will include stunt coordinator Rob Inch
(“World War Z,” Marvel’s “Captain America: The First Avenger”), creature effects
supervisor Neal Scanlan (“Prometheus”) and co-costume designers Dave Crossman
(costume supervisor for the “Harry Potter” series, “Saving Private Ryan”) and
Glyn Dillon (costume concept artist for “Kingsman: The Secret Service,” “Jupiter
Ascending”).
