The Aurek fighter was a delta-shaped light starfighter armed with two laser cannons. The fighter was capable of considerable acceleration and maneuvering, and had variable-geometry wings. Aurek fighters were used by the Republic during the Mandalorian Wars, the Jedi Civil War, the First Jedi Purge, and the New Sith Wars. They also saw service in the Onderon Navy.  These fighters were built with hyperspace capabilities because most of the Old Republic capital ships of the time did have hangers.

During the Mandalorian Wars the Aurek Fighter, also known as the A-wing, out performed conventional fighters. However, they were easy targets for Basilisk War Droids and anti-fighter ships. Basilisk Wars Droids could maneuver with the A-wing and take them out with a burst from their two main guns.

The A-wing again saw service in the Jedi Civil War and was the main fighter for the Jedi-Republic fleet. It could easily take on the Sith Fighters of the time and battle its way through Sith capital ships. The Sith often tried to get the A-wings supremacy by attacking in large numbers.

Several squadrons of Aurek fighters comprised part of the Republic fleet that attacked the Star Forge during the Battle of Rakata Prime. A number of these ships were used by Jedi Knights to land on board the Star Forge during the decisive strike against Darth Malak's Sith Empire.

After the Jedi Civil War, the Onderon Navy bought a few squadrons of A-wings and were used to fend off Mandalorian fighters at the moon of Dxun. During the First Jedi Purge, Onderon tried to break away for the Republic. The Onderon Navy used A-wings against the Republic fleet under the command of Colonel Tobin during the conflict. The battle was brief due to the loyalist supporters that helped end the battle. Later that year when Colonel Tobin with the help of the Sith attempted to take full control of the planet with soldiers and A-wings. The Jedi exile destroyed the last of the A-wings and helped the Queen, remaining loyalist, and Republic soldiers retake the city of Iziz and ended the conflict.

Although the Aurek fighters saw combat throughout a timespan of 3,000 years, they underwent extensive upgrades and revisions from one era to the next. The A-wing remained in service until the New Sith Wars where it was then replaced by a newer, more powerful fighter. The A-wing was the one of the best fighters ever used in the Old Republic. Many would later be placed in museums and displays around the galaxy.

Kuat Systems Engineering's Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor used during the Clone Wars was derived in part from the Aurek fighter. The Delta-7 would go on to influence the design of the famous RZ-1 A-wing starfighter which was used by the Rebel Alliance.
