Episode VII
Screenwriter Announced |
The Hollywood Reporter, Vulture, and Deadline, have reported that Academy Award-winning
screenwriter Michael Arndt will be an Episode VII screenwriter. Michael Arndt,
the Pixar favorite who was nominated for an Oscar for Toy Story 3, won an
Oscar for Little Miss Sunshine, and wrote The Hunger Games: Catching
Fire, which is currently shooting. Insiders confirm that Arndt has written
a 40- to 50-page treatment for the film and is likely to be at least one of the
writers when the Disney/Lucasfilm project begins shooting in 2014.
Sources also say that the studio’s brass want to bring back the three central
characters of the original Star Wars: a much older Luke Skywalker,
Princess Leia, and Han Solo. No deals are in place with any of the original
actors, though our source did say it had high ambitions to sign up Mark Hamill,
and EW recently reported that Harrison Ford was open to the idea of
returning.

Dave Filoni &
Ashley Eckstein Speak Out About Star Wars |
Dave Filoni & Ashley Eckstein speak out about Star Wars on the Star Wars Blog. Dave
writes: "I used to work for Disney. I’m not sure how many of you knew that. I
was in the Television Animation Division, and I worked on projects like
Teamo Supremo, Kim Possible, Lilo and Stitch: The
Series, Dave the Barbarian, and Fillmore."
"I think this is an incredibly exciting time for all of us. I am being
reunited with old friends of mine from my Disney days and getting ready, like
all of you, for Episodes VII, VIII, and IX. When Revenge of the Sith
was over, I found myself in the incredible position of carrying the torch
forward. Now I can see the incredibly bright light that is the future of
Star Wars. For those of you who are fans of The Clone Wars, do
not worry. We have many stories left to tell, and every one of them came
directly from George himself. Right down to the last one, where that thing with
Ahsoka happens…"
"Thanks to George, Star Wars truly will be forever. Now, let’s make
the jump to hyperspace. Things are gonna get awesome!" Be sure to read the entire entry!
Ashley writes: "... I was cast as this “new” character on the “new” Star
Wars animated series for Lucasfilm. I didn’t realize it at the time but I
was entering the Jedi Temple of life and I was now Dave Filoni’s Padawan. This
“new” character that we now know as Ahsoka and this “new” show that we now know
as The Clone Wars has truly changed my life. My outlook on life has
always been more like a Disney fairytale. Wish upon a star, sprinkle a little
pixie dust and have a magical day. Well…life isn’t always like that! The stories
in Star Wars helped me learn how to handle the cruel, dark side of the
world. There is evil and everyone has to deal with it. However, just like Ahsoka
has grown up during The Clone Wars, so have I, and Star Wars
has not only taught me to believe in the good but it’s taught me to never lose
hope. Good will prevail and I have become a student of the Force."
"Many people have been asking me my thoughts on Disney buying Lucasfilm. For
me, it’s a natural partnership. Two companies that have already been doing
amazing work together for years, who both have similar standards for excellence,
messages, and fans are now coming together to tell more stories and make fans
happy for years to come. I’m not sure what the future holds in all of this, but
my Padawan journey keeps bringing me back to Disney. I’m going to keep on
dreaming, believing, and I will never lose hope that great things are ahead!" Be
sure to read the entire entry! |

Harrison Ford Up
For Retuning As Han Solo? |
EW.com has an article about Harrison Ford and his interest in
Sequel Trilogy. It has been no secret through the years that Harrison Ford did
not like the role of Han Solo much as his career progressed after his run in the
Original Star Wars Trilogy. “As a character he was not so interesting to me,”
the frosty Ford explained in an ABC interview in 2010. “I thought he should have
died in the last one to give it some bottom…George didn’t think there was any
future in dead Han toys.” He also has expressed a dislike for the way George
Lucas directed the films. So why would his name be mentioned at all in an
upcoming Star Wars series?
According to sources close to the recently announced Star Wars sequel,
“Harrison is open to the idea of doing the movie and he’s upbeat about it, all
three of them are,” said one highly placed source, referring to Ford, Mark
Hamill, and Carrie Fisher. More than money, Ford might be drawn back by the
upside of changes at Lucasfilm where the respected Kathleen Kennedy is taking
over as company president, and with the Jedi franchise as a whole now that
Kennedy is in as executive producer and Lucas will take on a consultant role,
leaving the director’s chair for someone else.
Harrison Ford won’t go to the next level of contract talks until there’s a
script and director in place, but don’t be surprised if his contract includes a
mandatory death scene for the sly old space smuggler. Be sure to read the entire article.
