Posters At The
Lucasfilm Archives |
The Official Star Wars Site has a
cool article by Pete Vilmur featuring Star Wars posters! I love Star Wars
posters!
"Sometimes, ya just get lucky. The planets align with the
bright center of the universe and things just go your way for a day.
I'm a Star Wars poster collector -- Steve Sansweet and I wrote something
on the subject a few years ago -- so when Lucasfilm Archive Supervisor Marc
Wendt dropped me a line last week asking if I could help him sort out some of
the posters stored at the Ranch, it didn't take long for me to jump through the
phone and land smack dab in the middle of the pastoral hills north of San
Francisco.
Arriving at the Licensing Archives at Big Rock Ranch, Marc tasked me with
removing posters stored in tubes to document their numbers, condition, and
location in a new set of cubbies installed on the first floor. That's a pic of
me at right with a row of posters freshly liberated from their cardboard tubes.
Many of these will eventually be flattened and stored in banks of horizontal
flat files.
I managed to snap off a dozen pics of some of the more noteworthy posters
I came across that day, which I've displayed below. These represent only a
fraction of the overall collection, but it's a rare glimpse at some of the cool
stuff we have documenting the history of the saga."
Be sure to see some of these rare posters! |

Daily Video
Clip |
Today's new video clip is the
trailer for Fanboys. It's 1998 and Star Wars fanboys across the globe eagerly
await the release of Episode I. But for Eric, Linus, Hutch and Windows the term
"fanboy" is more than just a title, it's a badge of honor. Spurred by impatience
and an undying loyalty to their cause, these former high school friends reunite
to undertake the road trip of their fan-tasies. Traveling West across the
country to visit their Mecca - George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch - the plan is to
break in, steal the film and stake their claim as the first fanboys in history
to watch it. But to secure their place in the fanboy hall of fame, they'll have
to contend with bizarre bikers, a crazy pimp, a deranged group of trekkies and
the quiet intensity of William Shatner.

Vintage Alien
Collectibles |
The Official Star Wars Site also
has some great vintage alien collectibles. As the Star Wars universe
seems inclined to champion the neglected, the ignored, and the underestimated,
the saga has generously granted a small, motley crew of aliens the "grail
collectible" status that's usually reserved for the Luke Skywalkers, R2-D2s,
Obi-Wans, and Darth Vaders. Ahhh... the "Vinyl-Cape Jawa." Be sure to see them all!

Vintage Star Wars
Costumes |
The Official Star Wars Site has a
great slideshow of some great vintage Star Wars costumes. "In the spirit of
Halloween, we thought we'd share a few dozen pages from the albums that
contained costumes and masks, presented here just as we found them -- clipped
photos, type-written labels, index tabs and all. While this certainly isn't
comprehensive -- we couldn't find a bunch of material from The Empire Strikes
Back -- it does offer some indication of how Star Wars was
merchandised for Halloween and other festivities in other parts of the world." I
still have some of these. Great memories. Be sure to see
them all!
