Lucasarts President Resigns... Again

Kotaku has announced that Darrell Rodriguez, president of Lucasarts, has resigned from his position, and joining him at the exit are several members of his executive team.

The moves, announced earlier today at a Lucasarts staff meeting, do not impact the company's development teams, or other aspects of its publishing business outside of the top brass.

Rodriguez - former COO of EA Los Angeles - was named president of Lucasarts back in April of 2008, two months after his predecessor, Jim Ward, abruptly resigned from his position. His tenure has been a mixed bag, the company continuing to find success with Star Wars and Indiana Jones titles (LEGO, Force Unleashed) while failing to gain traction with internally-developed intellectual property (Fracture).

A replacement for Rodriguez has yet to be named.

Kotaku confirmed that Rodriguez resigned from his position, and that Lucasfilm's Jerry Bowerman will be holding the reigns while the company searches for a full-time replacement.

Last Tour to Endor

The Official Star Wars Site has announced that after more than two decades of interstellar travel, Disney Parks' Star Tours attraction is powering down to make way for its reimagining in 2011 -- but Last Tour to Endor offers fans the opportunity to attend an out of-this-world, first-of-its-kind decommissioning party before Star Tours launches its final flights.

Taking place on August 14 from 8:00pm - 1:00am at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., Last Tour to Endor is a special event on the Saturday night of Star Wars Celebration V -- THE official Lucasfilm fan convention and the biggest Star Wars party in the galaxy! Be sure to read the entire article.

Daily Video Clip

This is the Jump To Hyperspace Trailer for the StarWars.com fan club. The video debuted in May of 2003 and the membership opened to the public in June of that year. "Hyperspace" is basically a pay service through StarWars.com that was supposed to grant subscribers access to exclusive online material such as cut scenes, deleted scenes, and lots of extras from the Star Wars Saga. There was some cool content in the beginning, however the last few years there hasn't been any content worth paying for other than the membership kits. Therefore, StarWars.com announced today that the Hyperspace Membership Community will be discontinued as a paid subscription offer in 2011. Enjoy!

Hyperspace To Be Discontinued

The Official Star Wars Site has announced that due to changing realities of the evolving fanscape, the Hyperspace Membership Community will be discontinued as a paid subscription offer in 2011. Today -- May 5, 2010 -- begins the last year of Hyperspace.

But Hyperspace is going out with a bang! Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Episode V, we've put together our biggest and best Hyperspace Membership Kit ever -- a tribute to three decades of THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and a look forward to the future of STAR WARS. For the first time in years, this kit will be shipped in a tube, rather than flat. Good news for poster collectors! We'll have a closer look at the kit very soon. Some key items include:

  • Dark Horse Comics presents "Thank the Maker" comic book
  • An uncropped, larger version (18" x 32") of the Empire poster included in the original 1980 kit
  • Patch with 30th anniversary Empire Strikes Back logo
  • Membership card with Clone Wars art.
  • Exclusive Topps trading card
  • Pencil with classic Empire Strikes Back art -- a recreation from the original 1980 kit
  • And more! Look for a full preview of the kit to come soon....

New members who sign up now will receive the 2010 kit (while supplies last). And exclusive online content will continue to remain exclusive to subscribers through to the end of 2011.

It is about time I say! My membership only gets me the fan kits and nothing else. It certainly has been a waste of money for me. If I were running Hyperspace, I would have made offerings to fans that would have made them want to be paying members. But hey, I have not been offered a job.
