Clip |
Today's new video clip in the Movies Section is the Fan Film entitled
Dark Skies. Dark Skies was released
in August of 2001. It has great computer graphics, especially for its time and a
good story about the Skywalkers. Remember, this fan film was made before Attack
of the Clones, so it feels like an alternate Episode III.
It is a dark time for the Skywalker family. Having seen Anakin
consumed by the Dark Side, Amidala is determined to protect her children from a
similar fate. Dark Skies culminates in a showdown between Anakin and Amidala
over the destiny of their children, with devastating consequences...
You can find this great video in My Favorite
Fan Films section. You can find other Fan Films in the Other Star Wars Fan Films section.
Enjoy!

Dave Filoni
Interview |
TF.N has provided a
great interview with Dave Filoni, The Clone Wars' Supervising Director.
MB: Barring various gag orders, what ridiculously vague hints can you
drop about the rest of season two, and dare I ask, season
three?
DF: Hint? Well... lets see, it's always hard to give clues.
How about this: - You're going to see one of the most complex character
models we've built to date. What makes it complex? Size matters, let’s put it
that way… - Bounty Hunters make a big comeback. - Some guys don't have all
the luck.
Be sure to read this entire great interview with Dave! |

New Star Wars
Animated Series? |
IESB has an article claiming there is a new Star Wars Animated
Series on the way.
"Yes, you are hearing right. IESB has exclusively learned that George
Lucas is currently in pre-production on yet another Star Wars animated series.
The key demographic? Pre-School to Kindergarten aged children, yes, the Star
Wars: Galactic Heroes will be gracing televisions very soon.
The latest
from Lucasland a.k.a. Skywalker Ranch is that a director has been brought on
board to direct the new series based on the popular line of toys.
The
working title for the TV series is believed to be "Squishies."
Uncle
George has always had a soft spot for making more money, hmm, I mean children.
No word yet if Cartoon Network or its WB sister companies will be airing the
series.
A few years ago, when IESB broke the news that both a live action
and an animated TV show were in development, we were quite excited about the
possibilities, this one on the other hand, just seems like another way for the
Lucas Empire to fill up their piggy banks.
I give an animated Indiana
Jones TV series about 2 years before that gets announced."
Now until there is confirmation, I would still call this a rumor, but we had
heard about another animated series several months ago. We will see.

The Empire
Strikes Back Corn Flakes |
The Official Star Wars Site has provided a look at some vintage
cereal. Licensees and promotional partners did not consider a sequel to Star
Wars a sure thing despite the staggering success of the original film. As a
result, only one Empire Strikes Back cereal tie-in was promoted on the
planet, a little-known campaign from The Land Down Under.
Kellogg's in Australia was willing to take a chance on Empire,
releasing a set of eight different cut-out masks on the backs of Corn Flakes
cereal boxes: Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker, "Bounty Hunter", and C-3PO on the 500g
size boxes, and Darth Vader, Stormtrooper, Chewbacca, and Yoda on the 750g size.
By far the most notable of these is the "Bounty Hunter," a mysterious
lizard-like face which looks like it would be more at home on a Saturday morning
cartoon than in a Star Wars film. We're guessing this is supposed to be
Bossk, which is an interesting choice given the mere seconds of screen time the
character saw in the film. Be sure to read the entire article and see some of the
masks. |

New Clone Wars TV
Movie |
There will be a new TV movie to open Season 3 of The Clone Wars in
October and the Young Readers book The Clone Wars: Defenders of the
Republic has confirmed it. On page 25 of their catalog, it states:
"Based on the TV movie event that will launch season 3 of the Star Wars:
The Clone Wars television series in October 2010, this novel follows a group of
clone troopers as they rise through the ranks from cadets, to rookies, and all
the way to elite ARC troopers."
Perhaps we will see some Arc Troopers in action in the Season 3 opener. The
movie could be another story arc (no pun intended), but hopefully it will be an
actual movie. We will just have to wait and see.
Update:
Our friends over at EUCantina have gotten word that Frank Parisi (in charge of the
Penguin Young Readers’ Division) stated the mention of a TV movie to launch
Season 3 of The Clone Wars was incorrect.
"That information is incorrect, and due to internal miscommunication, it
slipped out without being properly vetted."
I believe we will still see a story arc at the beginning of Season 3 like we
did for basically both the previous seasons. |

Empire
Chronicles: AT-AT |
The Official Star Wars Site has
announced their latest feature celebrating the 30th Anniversary of The Empire
Strikes Back entitled the "Empire chronicles."
With our launch of "Empire Chronicles," a new
series which explores many of the characters, vehicles, and settings from The
Empire Strikes Back, we begin with an in-depth look at one of the film's most
unforgettable pieces of military hardware: the All Terrain Armored Transport, or
AT-AT for short. We've combed through dozens of sources documenting the creation
of this intimidating weapon of the Empire, from early issues of the
highly-regarded special effects journal Cinefex to the now-elusive video
commentary tracks featured on 1993's Definitive Collection laserdisc set
(remember those?). From these we've culled quotes or passages from the
individuals directly responsible for conceiving, building, filming, or breathing
life into the AT-AT, and have scoured our Image Archives for photos documenting
its creation, some of which have rarely been seen.
Be sure to read this great article! |
