Essential Guide to the Force

Essential Guide to the Force.jpg (55472 bytes)The Official Star Wars Site has announced that there will soon be a greater authority on matters of the Force than even the wise and powerful Yoda, and it will fit on your bookshelf. Del Rey Books is expanding their Essential Guide series with an all-new entry, Star Wars: Jedi vs. Sith -- The Essential Guide to the Force. Author Ryder Windham will explore this most famous yet mysterious aspect of Star Wars storytelling through insightful narratives supplied from some of the foremost Sith and Jedi scholars from a galaxy far, far away...

Learn the history of the Jedi and their enemies -- from the most ancient battles of light versus darkness chronicled within the recesses of long-lost Holocrons to more contemporary conflagrations recounted by heroes such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Leia Organa. Discover the myriad ways to contemplate and use the Force. Wield a lightsaber through different forms of combat, and for the truly brave, tread the path of the dark side and study the secrets of the Sith.

The book is illustrated throughout by Tommy Lee Edwards and Chris Trevas. It is due out in November 2007. I don't know about you, but the Essentials series has been my favorite books.

The Force Unleashed Delayed

Several gaming sites have announced that The Force Unleashed will be delayed until the Spring of 2008. I am sure we will still see the novel in the fall, but the game will have to wait. Maybe that will give them time to create a PC version of the game. One can only hope! If you will remember that the release of Shadows of the Empire came out as a novel in the Spring, they had toys in the Summer, and then the game released in the Fall of 1996. Since The Force Unleashed is following suit to the type of release as Shadows of the Empire, we will surely get the book and toys first.

You can read more about this development at:

It is not the first time a game has been delayed, but I hate to see that for the 30th Anniversary. Let's hope they at least get the bugs all worked out and make it the game everyone is hoping for.

Return of the Jedi-Special Edition - 10th Anniversary

10 years ago today marked the release of Return of the Jedi-Special Edition! It was the last in the series of Special Edition releases that got everyone pumped up again about the Star Wars Saga. It was fantastic to see it again on the big screen. The newly revised movie included new CG effects, locations, and music. We got to see a newly revised music scene with Sy Snootles and the Max Rebo band in Jabba's palace, and at the end of the movie they added the pan around to different locations as the Rebels had claimed victory. It was our first time seeing Coruscant (which was in preparation for Episode 1), new scenes in Cloud City on Bespin, and Tatooine. Nothing is better than Star Wars at the movies!

Featured Artist Craig Burt-Painting by Numbers 23

Featured Artist Craig Burt has provided us with a breakdown of one of his paintings that provides us with a look into how the picture came about. Here is some of the article created by Craig:

2Wam Bam Thankya Zam progressive.jpg (186005 bytes)
"Wam Bam Thankya Zam"

Of the older paintings this is one that I liked a bit more than the others because of it's sense of tension, the colors and dramatic lighting. Some things could be fixed, but then most of these paintings could have something in them fixed too. I could go 'special edition' on all of them and touch them up, but I think I might go mad if I did.

1. Is the direct inspiration for the painting, along with what I'd been reading about the purported story on a quality deceased website called Aldera.net (think that's the name). The photo appears to be a scan from Star Wars Insider magazine.

Be sure to read the rest of the article about "Wam Bam Thankya Zam" in the Painting by Numbers section. Thanks Craig for another great walkthrough of how this image came about! Enjoy!

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Novel

In November 2007, the next chapter of the Star Wars saga will be told in LucasArts' brand-new, next generation video game, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. The game casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" and the storyline promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The expansive story, created under the direction of George Lucas, is set during the largely unexplored era between Episode III and Episode IV as players assist Darth Vader in his quest to rid the galaxy of Jedi -- and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.

The official The Force Unleashed novel by author Sean Williams will cover the events of the game, as well as provide fans with a more in-depth story than they will get from the game alone. Although the game features multiple endings, this novel will be one of the only places where fans will be able to find the official "canon" ending -- the definitive conclusion that will mold the events of the Star Wars galaxy for the future.

Sean Williams is the New York Times bestselling author of more than 18 published novels, including the bestselling Evergence and Orphans trilogies. He has co-written three novels in the Star Wars: New Jedi Order series and is a multiple recepient of both the Ditmar and Aurealis Awards.

Star Wars TV Update

IESB.net had an interview with George Lucas about the upcoming 3D Clone Wars cartoon and the live action TV series. During the 3D Clone Wars cartoon we will see a new character named Osoka. (SP?) Lucas says she is a young padawan learner on her first assignment and is like a young Shaak Ti. He also mentioned that it is possible for us to see a young Boba Fett in the series as well.

Lucas would not say, (as he chuckled and smiled) but we will surely see a clip from the show at the upcoming Celebration IV. Lucas is trying to recreate the ambiance of a Star Wars film in cartoon form and “there won’t be anything on TV like it.” Some episodes are going to be just about clone troopers, and others feature main characters like Kit Fisto.

He also stated that there will be 100 episodes, but that a network has not been chosen to carry them yet. George has even eluded to a second animated series before the live-action TV series which he states is "years away." “It’s one show that splits up into four shows,” he said, “and each show will deal with a different character.” Be sure to see a short video clip interviewing George Lucas and we will keep you up-to-date as more information is released.
