EW Talks With
Star Wars Rebels Simon Kinberg |
EW.com sat down with Star Wars
Rebels Executive Producer Simon Kinberg for an interview. Kinberg stated that:
"We took all our cues from the original films. Obviously there are slight tonal
differences between New Hope, Empire and Jedi. But I think the closest intended
voice of the show is A New Hope. So there are places where we get into darker
backstories, there are places we see how cruel and malevolent the Empire can be,
but for the most part it’s a fun and character-driven story."
Can you
say plot-wise what’s the inciting incident that kicks off your story in your
first episode?
Um, I’m going to be a little vague about it. It’s less because I want to be
secretive but more because part of the fun for me, and I know this will sound
very nostalgic, part of the fun of the original movies is not knowing too much
about it. I will say when we pick up the show when the Empire is in power and
the inciting incident is the Empire doing their bad-Empire thing and our heroes
meeting up.

Episode VII
Script Complete-Filming In May |
USA Today
quotes JJ: "That's the current plan," Abrams said while stopping by the
Television Critics Association winter press tour "We have our script and we're
full steam ahead. Have script, will travel."
Abrams, who wrote the script
for Star Wars: Episode VII with Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back and
Return of the Jedi), had no news regarding the story or casting, the latter a
topic that has been the subject of numerous rumors.
"We can't talk about
story yet," said the director, who plans to travel to England soon to begin work
on the seventh film in the long-running saga. As far as casting, he had no
details but said they will come "soon, and I look forward to that so that we can
get past it and we can get on with it."
Abrams described working on the
much-anticipated film as "thrilling. But it's a lot." |
