Today's first new video is Rebels Recon #2.14: Inside "The Call." In
this installment of Rebels Recon, StarWars.com goes inside the Star
Wars Rebels episode “The Call” with creator interviews and more.
“This episode was really about showing how Ezra is continuing to
broaden his abilities with the Force and how he can commune with other
living creatures,” says co-executive produce Henry Gilroy. In addition,
it pulls back the curtain on some Star Wars lore: the origin of the
hyperdrive.
“I began to think that what if the first hyperspace travel
wasn’t technological,” executive producer Dave Filoni says, “but that it
was nature and that there were creatures that people could witness,
that could jump to hyperspace.” Those creatures are the whale-like
purrgil, which Ezra connects with through the Force throughout “The
Call.” This episode also explores the Mining Guild, first mentioned in
The Empire Strikes Back.
Finally, Lucasfilm’s Andi Gutierrez tracks down Pablo Hidalgo of
the Story Group for two questions: one regarding time dilation, and the
other on the difference between wild space and the Unknown Regions…
Enjoy!

Entertainment Weekly
has
an article about Disney's CEO Bob Iger reporting out on the status
of the
future Star Wars films. “There is no better way to propel this
franchise into the future than producing quality products,” he said.
“Filming of Star Wars: Episode VIII, the next chapter of the legendary
saga, has just commenced and it will be in theaters December 2017. And
production of Episode IX, a 2019 release, has also begun.”
“Filming of Rogue One is virtually completed and we absolutely
love what we’ve seen so far,” he said, of the heist story about Rebel
plans to steal the blueprints for the original Death Star. (The film,
directed by Godzilla’s Gareth Edwards, will be released
December 16, 2016.) “This is the first of a set of planned
stand-alone stories and we’re already in preproduction on our next one,
for release in May of 2018.”
The film Bob Iger is referring to is the “young Han Solo” movie.

Entertainment Weekly
has an
article about Disney reporting that as of Saturday, The Force Awakens
has officially made more than $2 billion worldwide, making it only the
third film in history to hit that number. The other movies to have made
more than $2 billion are Titanic ($2.19 billion) and Avatar ($2.79
billion), unadjusted for inflation.
On Friday, Disney announced The Force Awakens had made $900 million
domestically, becoming the only film in history to hit that number.
“This is a historic moment for Star Wars, for Lucasfilm, and for Disney,
and all of us here are extremely gratified to be a part of this journey
with fans around the world who have made Star Wars: The Force Awakens
such an extraordinary success,” Disney chairman Alan Horn said in a
statement. “The film’s achievements are truly astounding, and it’s our
great honor to relaunch this cinematic galaxy not only for all the
devoted decades-long fans but for a new generation who will keep the
Star Wars legacy alive for many years to come.”
The Force Awakens’ new global total is one more accomplishment it can
add to its long list of box office achievements. Since opening in
mid-December, The Force Awakens has set multiple records, including the
biggest domestic opening day of all time ($119.1 million), the biggest
domestic ($247.9 million) and global ($528.9 million) opening weekend
ever, and the fastest film to $1 billion (12 days of global release).
The next adventure in a galaxy far, far away will hit theaters later this year, as Rogue One is released on
December 16, 2016. Episode VIII will premiere on December 15, 2017.
Today's new video is Rebels Recon #2.13: Inside "Legends of the
Lasat."
In this installment of Rebels Recon, StarWars.com takes a deep dive into
the Star Wars Rebels episode “Legends of the Lasat,” with creator
interviews and more.
In “Legends of the Lasat,” we learn that Zeb was a captain in the Lasan
Honor Guard. “People have recognized that Zeb seems to be the most
militaristic of the bunch,” says the Story Group’s Pablo Hidalgo. “So
now we get to see where that comes from. Zeb meets fellow survivors,
Gron and Chava — a significant development for the Ghost crew’s bruiser.
“He has, finally, some balance in his life, when he realizes he’s not
the only one,” executive producer Dave Filoni says. “He doesn’t have to
carry that burden.”
The episode also offers insight into Lasat culture — including a
connection to the Force. “Spirituality and what you can label as the
Force, is not something the Jedi have exclusive access to,” Hidalgo
says.
Finally, Andi Gutierrez contacts Pablo — on vacation — with a fan
question: Is Sabine’s father Obi-Wan Kenobi? And is Rey Sabine’s
daughter with Ezra? The answer should be interesting!
Enjoy!
