LucasArts
Announces The Force Unleashed |
LucasArts has reconstructed their website as part of the
promotional release of the new Next Gen Star Wars Game called The Force
Unleashed. The saga continues this November in this latest video game developed
by LucasArts which casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" and
promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy.
The expansive story, created under direction from George Lucas, is set during
the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of
the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players
will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi -- and
face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.
- During the period between Episodes III and IV, players hunt Jedi in the role
of Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice.
- Unleash and upgrade the Secret Apprentice's four core Force powers -- Force
push, grip, repulse and lightning -- throughout the course of the game, and
combine them for ultra-destructive, never-before-seen combos.
- Examples of unleashing the Force in ways never thought possible: The Secret
Apprentice won't just Force push enemies into walls -- he'll Force push enemies
through walls; The Secret Apprentice won't just Force grip foes to throw them
aside -- he'll Force grip them in midair, zap them with lightning, then drop
them to the ground to explode like a bomb.
- In addition to new adversaries created just for the game, such as fugitive
Jedi and Force-sensitive Felucians, players will also confront and associate
with familiar faces from the Star Wars films, including Darth Vader.
- Visit locations such as Episode III's Wookiee homeworld Kashyyyk and the
floral Felucia, the junk planet Raxus Prime, plus an Imperial TIE fighter
construction facility.
- Decisions made by players throughout the game will determine the path of the
story, including multiple endings that will rock Star Wars continuity as
they know it.
- The Force Unleashed is LucasArts' first internally developed title for
next-generation consoles, and it represents the first in-game collaboration of
talents and technology between LucasArts and Industrial Light & Magic, two
companies now finally under one roof at the new Letterman Digital Arts Center in
San Francisco's Presidio district.
- The Force Unleashed debuts Digital Molecular Matter from Pixelux and
euphoria behavioral simulation from NaturalMotion Ltd.
- LucasArts is preparing an unprecedented promotional effort around the launch
of The Force Unleashed, encompassing a full line of toys and game-based action
figures from Hasbro, as well as a full publishing program from Dark Horse, Del
Rey and Palace Press.
Be sure to visit the newly released The Force Unleashed
Official Website for great picture and some cool things to come in the near
future. Also, incase you missed our article on July 25, 2006 that has a video
clip from the game, I have decided to show it again here. Enjoy!

Featured Artist
Craig Burt-Painting by Numbers 21 |
Featured Artist Craig Burt has provided us
with a breakdown of one of his paintings that provides us with a look into how
the picture came about. Here is some of the article created by Craig:
"Blond Bombshells"
This painting - Blond Bombshells - is one of the simplified
style of the early days, and, I'm not sure if that makes a bad painting or just
a different styled one. It is a scene of Anakin and Obi-Wan fighting in the
arena on Geonosis from Attack of the Clones.
1. Must be the start of the
process, because, looking through the files I can't find any image that jolts my
memory as a starting point. There are just the two sketches to the final design.
The only main change from sketch one to two is the position of Obi-Wan's hands.
I moved them to a more central position to help give the impression that they
are almost fighting against each other as their enemy.
Be sure to read the rest of the article about "Blond
Bombshells" in the Painting by
Numbers section. Thanks Craig for another great walkthrough of how this
image came about! Enjoy! |

Star Wars Fan
Film Competition |
The Official Star Wars Site has announced that the Star
Wars Fan Film Awards are in their sixth year, and the best entries will be
featured at Star Wars Celebration IV, May 24-28 at the Los Angeles
Convention Center. Moviemakers will compete for one of the rare Star Wars
Fan Film trophies featuring golden droids C-3PO and R2-D2. The maker of the top
movie will have the exceptional honor of receiving the George Lucas
Selects trophy, chosen by the moviemaker himself.
Those who enter the Star Wars Fan Film competition and are chosen as
finalists will find themselves, and their short movies, in the spotlight. All
finalists in the competition will be played at Star Wars Celebration IV
in a dedicated track each day of the show. What's more, the best movies of the
competition will be recognized at the Sixth Annual Star Wars Fan Film
Award Ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, May 27. Always memorable, often full of
surprises, the ceremony will honor the top movies of the competition, and
feature presenters from the industry, including representatives from Lucasfilm.
Get shooting! In honor of the 30th Anniversary year of the Star Wars
saga, the Fan Film Awards are expanding their guidelines to take in more types
of movies than before. In the past, entrants could submit spoofs, parodies,
documentaries, and experimental Star Wars movies. The 2007 Awards plan to
accept more types of movies, so stay tuned to starwars.com for details on entry
guidelines and where to submit. |

Craig Burt's Jedi
Power's Gore |
Craig Burt has provided his newest
outstanding painting to the Featured Artist
section!
This one is near and dear to me because it is me! Craig had mentioned to
me several weeks ago that he had created a painting that featured himself
and Vader. (the former webmaster of the now closed Alderaan Online) He
offered to do the same for me and gave me a clean canvas in which to create my
world.
I decided on one of my most memorable moments from Star Wars, the invasion
on the Tantive IV from Star Wars: A New Hope. I thought that I could be the Sith
Lord who was taking over the ship, but in order to do that instead of Darth
Vader it would need to be more of an alternate universe.
I asked Craig to create the stormtroopers in the
Ralph McQuarrie style with shields and lightsabers. I also specifically asked to
be stabbing a Rebel trooper with my lightsaber as I used the Force to choke down
another.
I must say that Craig's ability to take some words from an e-mail and
create them on paper like he did is just phenomenal! He had all the elements I
had asked for and had envisioned in my mind. The detail is spectacular and I
can't thank him enough for the opportunity to see myself in the Star Wars
universe. Thanks a million Craig!
I hope you will enjoy this piece as much as I do. At least you get to see
me, even if I am a little mad while reeking havoc!
Also, be sure to see the rest of Craig's outstanding work in the Craig Burt's
Paintings section, see a breakdown of paintings like these in the popular Painting by
Numbers section, and also Craig Burt's Cartoons!
You can also find other great work by other artists in the Featured Artists section. Enjoy! |

First Image of 3D
Clone Wars Cartoon |
Well, Galactic Hunter scores a
cool find at the 2007 toy fair by finding a poster that lists out all three
upcoming events for 2007, 2008, and 2009. The 2008 picture is for the new 3D
Clone Wars Cartoon. We get to see our first glimpse of Yoda and I think this
series is going to look great. Also, note that the 2009 picture features Boba
Fett, or at least someone in Mandalorian armor. It seems that there will be some
interesting things to look forward to as well with the live action TV series. We
will keep you up to date as more information comes in.

The Art of Ralph
McQuarrie Update |
This is just a quick note to let you know that the latest
production update has been added. This update includes photos of the proof
versions of the dust jacket and printed slipcase for the trade edition as well
as the first look at a sample of the presentation box for the lettered
edition.
In case you missed it, we've also included a link to the very nice article
that ran on starwars.com last week. It's definitely worth checking out as it not
only contains a few more sample pages from the book, we go into a little more
detail about some of the content we have not previously discussed. As you might
expect we received quite a few pre-orders in the wake of the article, and as a
result we're down to our last few copies of the signed lettered edition. If
you're considering ordering this edition, I strongly encourage you to act fast
to avoid disappointment.
It's hard for us to believe it's mid-February; the good news is we're that
much closer to holding the finished book in our hands. Thanks for your continued
interest and support of The Art of Ralph McQuarrie.
