Galactic Poll

Today I am asking you for your opinion. In order to serve your needs and wants better, I have added a poll on the left for you to identify what it is you want to see more of here at Galactic Voyage. I will use that information to plan what it is I update more often or what gets the higher priority. I have also included an 'Other' category so that if you are looking for something that is not listed, you can send me an e-mail directly with what it is you hope for us to provide. So, cast your vote now and thanks for the feedback!

A New/Old Affiliate

Today Galactic Voyage has a new/old affiliate! I would like to say thank you and welcome back to Mark Newbold of Lightsabre for making this affiliation possible. We first created our affiliation with Lightsabre back in 2000, but as the years rolled on, many quality Star Wars sites became one with the Force. I had originally thought that Lightsabre was also one of those sites that seemed to have faded away so I removed the banner. I was very pleasantly surprised to learn that they had a redesign and are not only alive but are surly kickin'!

Lightsabre is a massive fan fiction site that includes all kinds of goodies for you to spend hours looking at. It contains character, planet, starship, location, and chronology guides along with over one hundred and fifty stories, synopsis, and audio scripts providing the ability to immerse yourself into the fictional world of Star Wars! If you have never been, then now's the time.

Featured Artist Craig Burt-Painting by Numbers 20

Featured Artist Craig Burt has provided us with a breakdown of one of his paintings that provides us with a look into how the picture came about. Here is some of the article created by Craig:

2Dooku DooDoo progression.jpg (281250 bytes)
"Dooku DooDoo"

This one is one of the oldest of these Star Wars paintings - this was the second done after Naboo BooBoo - and Dooku DooDoo illustrates the more detailed style with which I started these paintings, which, I went away from because it was too time-consuming; that was probably a mistake.

1. I think is the start of the idea for the painting. I liked the pose and thought it would make a good stance for Padmé being tied to something. If you're wondering why she looks familiar, it is a photo of Carisma Carpenter (think that's her name) from the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Be sure to read the rest of the article about "Dooku DooDoo" in the Painting by Numbers section. Thanks Craig for another great walkthrough of how this image came about! Enjoy!

Also, stay tuned next week as we bring you Craig's latest work which was created especially for me!

3D Clone Wars Cartoon Update

Mintinbox.com posted a video interview with Rob Coleman online where they discuss Lucasfilm's upcoming 3D animated Star Wars series.

TheForce.net has broken down the juicy tidbits for us to enjoy:

-Currently 15 episodes in various stages of production
-One, almost two episodes fully completed
-Coleman to direct 5 of first 26 episodes
-"They're looking fabulous, they're looking great..."
-"Our stuff is incredible compared to what's out there..."
-Some licensees have viewed footage and the reaction was very positive
-Final assembly of shows is done at Skywalker Ranch
-Rob admits to collecting some trinkets along the way
-Rob hopes to be able to attend Celebration IV

I hope as the year rolls on, it won't be long until we really start getting some good new stuff!

May 2007 Comics

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 17.jpg (65983 bytes)The Official Star Wars Site has provided a look at more Dark Horse Comics for Star Wars fans this May. A lieutenant to one of the most powerful gangsters in the galaxy, Wyl Tarson is a master of lying, cheating, and stealing -- and a hero of the Rebel Alliance! For years Wyl has been acquiring valuable information for the Rebellion through his employer Raze's expansive criminal network. That is, until Raze discovers Wyl's second life as a Rebel spy. Now, subjected to a mysterious procedure, Wyl has become a prisoner in his own body, subject to Raze's every whim.

It's a story that no fan of the original trilogy should miss -- an all-new adventure set in the dangerous underworld of the war between the Empire and the Rebellion! Star Wars: Rebellion #6, which starts the five-part "The Ahakista Gambit" is due out on May 9th, and features the talents of Rob Williams, Michel Lacombe, Wil Glass and cover art by Ryan Sook.

Beneath the ruins of the Jedi Temple on Ossus lies a powerful secret that, in the wrong hands, could end the legacy of the Jedi once and for all!

Now, at the site of his father's death, Cade Skywalker must decide what he owes the past, and how it will shape his future. Personal responsibility is not a well-developed trait in this last heir to the Skywalker name, and Cade will be forced to look past his fears, addictions, and painful memories if he is to take up the mantle that has been offered him.

Star Wars: Legacy #2, the conclusion of the two-part "The Ghosts of Ossus" arc, is scheduled for release on May 23, and features the talents of John Ostrander, Jan Duursema, Dan Parsons and Brad Anderson.

Keeper of a terrible secret, addled inventor Camper spent most of his life running from Adascorp, the most powerful organization on his homeworld of Arkania. Now he is gravely ill aboard the Arkanian Legacy, the colossal flagship of the corporation, his life in the hands of its owner -- Lord Adasca! Does the young lord really intend to cure Camper and make amends for his predecessors' relentless hunt of the old man?

Elsewhere in the galaxy, the ship carrying fugitive Padawan Zayne Carrick gets caught in a massive space battle. Whether his captors know victory or defeat, Zayne faces certain doom either way. Time to come up with an escape plan -- and quick! Long on danger, short on answers, life in the Old Republic is intriguing, exciting, and undeniably Star Wars! Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic #17, by John Jackson Miller, Dustin Waver, Michael Atiyeh and Chris Warner, is due out on May 30.

Each month, the Star Wars 30th Anniversary Collection series will bring readers a limited-edition hardcover of the best of Dark Horse's Star Wars graphic novels. Available only through Direct Market retail outlets, each volume's print run is limited to initial orders and will not be reprinted. Volume 5 brings us Light and Dark, by John Ostrander, Jan Duursema, Dan Parsons and Brad Anderson.

The Clone Wars have begun, and what it means to be a Jedi will be changed forever! Taking on new roles as generals, warriors, and even spies, the Jedi face difficult choices about their ideals, and what they are willing to sacrifice for the Republic they are sworn to protect. Jedi Master Quinlan Vos has had more than his share of brushes with the dark side of the Force, which is exactly why he is chosen to pierce the inner circle of Count Dooku, the ex-Jedi Separatist leader. Yet to complete his mission, Vos must plunge headlong into the shadow of the dark side -- a path from which there may be no return!

This 144-page hardcover is on sale July 4.

Movies Section Overhaul

Today I have completed an overhaul of the Movies Section. When this section first started, I was pretty sure that it would be fairly limited due to the restrictions of web space and bandwidth. Well, like everything else, bigger is better in most people's minds and that works to our advantage.

Back in 1999 with what was reasonable affordable to me, I could have never even dreamed of putting movie clips on-line. Now, in 2007 I pay less for tons more space and bandwidth allowing for the section to be a reality and to continue to grow. In the last 2 months, I have doubled our web space and bandwidth capabilities which will provide the capability to expand the section further.

The Movies Section page had gotten so crowded that I was starting to feel it was hard to find what you wanted. Instead of text entries all crammed together in two columns, we now have six main categories that will make it easier to find exactly what you are looking for. Be looking for some more great video clips in the very near future.

This page has had an information overhaul and now includes a Flash video of the ship to give you something a little more interesting. Today's ship is the Tantive IV. Enjoy!
