Phil Brown Passes
Away |
Veteran actor Phil Brown, best known to Star Wars fans as
Luke Skywalker's Uncle Owen Lars from A New Hope, died Thursday after a
lengthy illness. The 1977 role of Owen Lars introduced Brown to a whole new
audience of young film fans, though it was only a small part in comparison to
his lengthy acting history.
Brown was a member of the famous Group Theater in New York in
1938, shortly after his graduation from Stanford University. After appearances
on the Broadway stage, Brown and other members of the Group moved to Hollywood
in the 1940s. Brown appeared in supporting roles in a variety of films, and
served as a board member and producer for the Actor's Laboratory, a renowned
stage theatre in Hollywood.
His career as a director was cut short after only one film, The
Harlem Globetrotters, when the anti-communist McCarthyism hysteria took a
hold of Hollywood. Though never a member of the Communist Party, Brown was
nonetheless blacklisted in 1952 and could not find work in America. He instead
went to London, where he continued his work as an actor and director, on stage,
television and feature films.
In recent years, Brown had made a number of convention and event
appearances celebrating his role as Owen Lars, where he had the opportunity to
meet many Star Wars fans in person. He is survived by his wife Ginny, who
was also well known to fans since she accompanied her husband to most fan
conventions. May he rest in peace. |

Bespin Han Solo
on Sale Today! |
Don't forget that today is the

four venerable Jedi Knights from the Star Wars saga, break ranks and offers up a
new character far too cynical for "hokey religions and ancient weapons." Bespin
Han Solo, who joins Jedi Luke, Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Kit Fisto, brings a
notorious element to the series, but not the kind the scruffy-looking scoundrel
is usually known for -- the Sideshow-exclusive Bespin Han Solo includes a
power-cable-sucking mynock that attaches to any metallic surface!
Be sure to follow the link between 10-10:30AM PST to pick up your
exclusive Bespin Han Solo figure! Last time they sold out in 25 minutes, so be

Master Replicas
Y-Wing |
All Wings Report In! We reported
it was coming soon and it is available now! Launch into 2006 in spectacular
style with the first ever, officially licensed replica of this classic Star Wars
spaceship!
Tasked with the daunting challenge of stopping the Empire's new,
planet-killing weapon from forever ending the hopes of the freedom fighting
rebels, a rag-tag fleet of Rebel Alliance starfighters takes off from the fourth
moon of Yavin.
While Red Leader and his spirited squadron of X-wing fighters engage the
turbo lasers and TIE fighters of the Imperials, Gold Squadron in their older but
sturdy Y-wing fighters begin a daring attack run on a small thermal exhaust
port: the one identifiable weakness of the dreaded Death Star.
Bring home the excitement of the Battle of Yavin as Master Replicas adds this
most famous of starfighters from the Star Wars saga to our acclaimed Studio
Scale series of model replicas.
Created from a direct study of Lucasfilm archival materials, the Rebel Y-wing
combines hundreds of model kit parts and dimensions from the many models used to
portray this classic ship onscreen into a faithful representation that features:
- Machined aluminum and brass components
- Quality resin construction
- Injection molded details
- Individual stand featuring a museum quality display base Plaque and
certificate of authenticity
You can find this and other great products in the Merchandise section and more Studio
Scale replicas under Master

May 2006
Comics |
The Official Star
Wars Site has provided a look at what Dark Horse Comics has in store for
Star Wars fans in May. The past, present and future of the Star Wars galaxy are
explored in Dark Horse Comics' May assortment of titles, including a new series
that goes where no Star Wars tale has ever ventured before.
In the
mid-1990s, Dark Horse blazed new trails into the ancient past of the Star Wars
galaxy with their amazing Tales of the Jedi series. Now, their creative talents
are journeying into the distant future of the Star Wars galaxy, with Star Wars:
Legacy.
Set more than a century after the events of Return of the Jedi,
Legacy is set in a galaxy held in thrall by a resurgent Empire seeking to
destroy the last of the Jedi. Even as their power is failing, the Jedi hold onto
one final hope: the last remaining heir to the Skywalker legacy.
Star
Wars: Legacy begins with a special 25-cent preview issue #0, written by John
Ostrander with art by Jan Duursema and Sean Cooke. The preview issue is
scheduled for release on May 17, with the series starting in
June.
Meanwhile, in the "present" of the Star Wars galaxy, the Rebel
Alliance continues its familiar and classic struggle against the Empire in Star
Wars: Rebellion. Luke Skywalker and Wedge Antilles lead an ambush against an
Imperial supply convoy. Recuperating aboard a vessel in the Rebel fleet, Jorin
Sol, a former Imperial prisoner, may yet prove to be a great threat. And to top
it all off, Luke must deal with the fact that Imperial officer Janek Sunber is
in fact an old friend from a desert planet far, far away!
Star Wars:
Rebellion -- My Brother, My Enemy #2 is by Rob Williams, Brandon Badeaux and Wil
Glass. It is scheduled for release on May 17.
Blast back thousands of
years into the past with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic #5. In this
issue, fugitive Padawan Zayne Carrick has uncovered a junked droid that may
contain vital information... too bad his former masters have just caught up to
him! Trapped on a desolate moon surface bombarded with asteroids, Zayne's
situation seems hopeless, even with a motley crew of space stragglers at his
side. But when those same scoundrels bring the droid back online, the truth
revealed is far darker and more menacing than any of them could have imagined.
Now, Zayne must prove his innocence, not only for his own sake, but for that of
the entire Jedi order!
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic #5 is by
John Jackson Miller, Travel Foreman, Michael Atiyet and Travis Charest. It is
due out May 31.
If English isn't your first language, or you're looking
up to brush up your Spanish reading skills, June 14 sees the arrival of an
assortment of Star Wars titles in Spanish language editions. These include Star
Wars: Clone Wars Volume 1, Star Wars: Empire Volume 1, and Clone Wars Adventures
Volume 1. |
