Homing Beacon
#176 |
The latest Homing Beacon has
arrived and today we get to talk about the Rose Bowl Parade! As Star Wars turns
30 in 2007, and the anniversary year will begin on New Year's Day 2007 in
Pasadena, California as Star Wars for the first time will be in the Tournament
of Roses Parade, viewed by millions of people in person and around the world!
The parade will feature 200 costumed, marching 501st stormtroopers who are
being flown in from more than 20 countries and all over North America for this
once-in-a-lifetime gathering. Accompanying the costumed marchers would be the
world-famous Grambling State University Tiger Marching Band from Louisiana, also
in costume.
Though the Imperial ranks capture the pageantry and glory of the Star Wars
saga, the theme of the 2007 parade is "Our Good Nature," and to best reflect
that ideal, some of the most environmentally-conscious denizens of the far-away
galaxy will be represented in the parade.
Stay tuned on starwars.com for behind-the-scenes features on the float
designers, 501st members, the marching band, the float queens, Mikey the Ewok
and more during the whole month of December leading up to the
parade! |

March 2007
Comics |
The Official Star
Wars Site has provided a look at more Dark Horse Comics for Star Wars fans
this March. Once bitter enemies, Imperials loyal to the deposed Emperor Roan Fel
meet with representatives from the remnants of the Galactic Alliance to discuss
joining forces against the Sith. However, two spies have been thrown into the
mix, each with different orders, their determination to complete their missions
putting them on an explosive collision course. Meanwhile, Cade Skywalker remains
missing, yet still pursued by those bent on ignoring his desire to be left
alone.
Will a new alliance be forged to defeat Darth Krayt's minions, or
will betrayal shatter the galaxy's last best hope for freedom? Will Skywalker's
refuge be discovered? More importantly, what will happen to those who find him?
Find out in this pivotal issue of Star Wars Legacy! Issue #10 is by John
Ostrander, Colin Wilson, and Brad Anderson, with cover art by Dave Ross. It is
scheduled for release on March 14.
Meanwhile, in the distant past of the
Star Wars galaxy, the "Days of Fear" story arc reaches its explosive conclusion
in a story of dangerous visions, unheeded warnings, and decisions made too late!
Fugitive Padawan Zayne Carrick faces his darkest moments so far as a desperate
attempt to avert a cataclysmic disaster drives him into the arms of his enemies.
Zayne puts his life on the line in an attempt to save those who don't even
realize the grave fate they face, but will his sacrifice be in vain? Meanwhile,
the small-time con Gryph has happened upon big-time profit, but if he doesn't
keep his greed in check, this seeming success story could quickly turn
tragic!
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic #15 is by John Jackson
Miller and Brian Ching and Michael Atiyeh. It is scheduled for release on March
28.
Skipping ahead to May, you can look forward to the second collection
of Knights of the Old Republic, with the trade paperback edition of "Flashpoint"
by John Jackson Miller, Brian Ching, Dustin Weaver, Harvey Tolbao, Michael
Atiyeh and Jay David Ramos.
Nearly 4,000 years before the Death Star,
fugitive Padawan Zayne Carrick's quest to clear his name for the alleged murder
of his fellow Jedi-in-training brings him head to head with the galaxy's most
feared fighting force--the Mandalorians!
Along with a petty crook named
Gryph and Elbee the grouchy droid, Zayne is a passenger aboard the Last Resort,
a renegade ship piloted by the senile genius Camper and his fierce protector
Jarael. Together, this motley crew will face kidnappings, hijackings, maniacal
scientists, Mandalorian traitors, bumbling bounty-hunting brothers, and a few
really big explosions.
Collecting issues #7-12 of the ongoing comic book
series Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, this volume launches our heroes
into one of the most outrageous and exciting adventures since Luke Skywalker
learned the ways of the Force!
Each month, the Star Wars 30th Anniversary
Collection series will bring readers a limited-edition hardcover of the best of
Dark Horse's Star Wars graphic novels. Available only through Direct Market
retail outlets, each volume's print run is limited to initial orders and will
not be reprinted.
The third volume collects the Darth Maul series by Ron
Marz, Jan Duursema, Rick Maygar and Dave McCaig. In the days before Qui-Gon Jinn
and Obi-Wan Kenobi's first fateful mission to Naboo, Darth Sidious discovers a
threat to his plan for galactic domination -- the nefarious criminal
organization Black Sun. Unwilling to tolerate such opposition to his Imperial
ambitions, the Sith lord sends his apprentice Darth Maul to deal with this
cartel of space mobsters.
Step by deadly step Maul infiltrates Black Sun,
eliminating its lieutenants and working his way into its inner sanctum. Yet
those who rule this society of evil do not intend to be vanquished so easily.
It's all-out action as the darkest forces in the galaxy vie for power in a
battle that will have dire consequences for the future of the
Republic.
Also in May is the second volume of the popular Star Wars:
Panel to Panel. Subtitled "Expanding the Universe," this all-new volume
spotlights not only the stunning work of comics' greatest artists, but also the
legion of characters Dark Horse has contributed to Star Wars' Expanded
Universe--characters who have not only carried the romance and adventure of the
galaxy far, far away far beyond the events in the films, but those who have made
the jump from the pages of comic books to television and the silver screen!
Every Star Wars fan will cherish this look back, forward, and beyond! |

LucasArts Reveals
Future Star Wars Game Plans |
Videogamesblogger.com
has an interview about the video game incarnations of Star Wars, now that the
movies are done, has revealed some great future LucasArts lineup details.
Nextgen got Nancy MacIntyre, VP of global sales and marketing, to talk about how
LucasArts sees the Star Wars future. Turns out that aside from planned TV
projects they take upcoming games very serious.
She said: “We feel like it’s really important to make each Star Wars game an
event, she explains. “Our fans want a logical progression of the Star Wars story
line, so we are committed to only two Star Wars experiences a year [starting in
2007].”
She adds, “There will be one mega one like Star Wars ’07 and another that
might be somewhat more specific, for more of a specific Star Wars audience. So
in 2007 our primary goal will be Star Wars ’07 and you will see us do add-ons to
our Star Wars Galaxies (MMO) and you will likely see us do some sort of Star
Wars handheld game.”
MacIntyre continues, “We’ve also got Star Wars franchises like
Knights of the Old Republic and BattleFront
that we will not leave behind. It’s very important to us that we grow those
franchises.”
As for what other future games will be based on: “In 2008 and 2009 we start
to run into the Star Wars animated series and potentially the Star Wars live
action TV series.”
It will be good to see these game franchises continue and I look forward to
games based on the two television series! It is still an exciting time to be a
Star Wars fan! |
