EPIII: Spoiler

TF.N Insider Timberwolf files this report with more details on possible makeup tests for Anakin in some of the final scenes of Episode III. These are heavy spoilers, so if you're on the edge you may want to pass them up. You've been warned! Spoilers - Hightlight to read:

I can see that the original reports of Anakin meeting the lava are causing quite a stir. What I'm about to tell you details the look of Anakin at the end of the film, I hope you don't mind being spoiled this early.
Basically, there's several "toasted Anakins" - three to be exact. I can give you the details on each, though I have no idea which one(s) actually will be used in the final version of the film.

Anakin Test #1: Anakin is burned black almost completely head to toe, except for his face. He is charcoal black and it honestly is sickening. The only burn marks on his face creep up along his right side of the face and the top and bottom of his eye. His ear is almost completely gone and around his lips there are several severe burns as well. This is really a sight to behold.

Anakin Test #2: This test involved Hayden getting made to look very close to the unmasked Vader from Return of the Jedi. His skin is very dark tan in color and he has that huge gash in the right side of the top his head and other marks you may recognize. There are many small burns and scrapes on his face, with the most substantial burns appearing on both cheeks and then burned to a black crisp the rest of the way down.

Anakin Test #3: In this final version, Hayden was made up to be burned, but not NEARLY as severe. He has massive bags under his eyes and his hair is almost completely singed off - but not quite, some stubble still remains. The left side of his face is in terrible condition, extending down his neck then to an entirely burned body as well. The others look more over the top, where this one looks more like just terrible 2nd degree burns.

Which ever of the three they choose, we're in for quite a sight. Wow ...

Which one is being used in the final picture? We don't know ... yet.

Please Welcome New Staff Members

By now you have seen some new "faces" around here recently. I am very pleased to announce the addition of a few new Staff Members to the Galactic Voyage team.

First, I would like to welcome Rebel Racer, who has several news posts currently full of great information! He will be providing you with the latest news and video game information. He also has a website that was featured as a Site of the Month for August 2003 called Docking Bay 101.

Second, I would like to welcome themostpowerfuljediever who started posting at the end of last week. themostpowerfuljediever will be also working on providing the latest news and video game information. Ironically, themostpowerfuljediever's website name is very similar to Rebel Racer's, but is a Yahoo Group called Star Wars Dockingbay.

Last but not least, I would like to welcome Rob Weekhout. Rob will be providing news from time to time, but will primarily be helping me with the "Back End" of Galactic Voyage. If all goes well, he will be helping with Programming, Design, Flash, and Graphics. Many of you may remember Rob from his old Star Wars site called Webmasters of the Force. He also hosted the SW Forums that can be found here for a while until he closed his site in favor of other ventures.

I would just like to say thank you and welcome to all the new Staff Members for all of their help in keeping Galactic Voyage running. Especially being I am going to have less time to devote to Star Wars when my second baby is born in the beginning of December.

If you would also like to be part of the Galactic Voyage team, please send me an e-mail at jedipower@galactic-voyage.com.

Two Jedi Academy Reviews

TF.N has provided two reviews on Lucas Arts latest Star Wars game, Jedi Academy:

All in all the levels are very massive and expansive, though quite linear. I view that as good design though, like the Jedi should be able to sense what is next and head in the right direction. Quite rarely was I ever disoriented or lost - and if you are just use the Force power to see though walls to see where people are waiting for you to advance. There's scores of planets to visit, tons of different lighting effects and the environment work like dust, snow and rain are absolutely compelling. One level aboard a transport train screaming through Corusant is an absolutely stunning visual achievement. The first time you see the rain sizzle on the saber or you realize the Taun-Tauns can be mounted will be spectacular.

And, here's a little snippit from the second review:

What we have here is another solid addition to the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series that, although using many elements of the previous title, brings with it some great action and one of the better multiplayer modes for a first person shooter.

KOTOR: Game Informer Review

Game Informer's review of KOTOR is now available online:

The structure of the game is linear, like most console RPGs. However, through lengthy side quests and minigames that range from competing in swoop races to mounting a turret for space combat to losing all of your Credits in an addictive card game called Pazaak, Knights feels entirely open-ended and gives players freedom to veer off of the path frequently.

In true BioWare form, almost everything in the game can be tinkered with, customized, or upgraded. You can reinforce armor with new alloys; add a hair trigger and sight to your blaster; install neuro implants; hack into computers; repair droids; and even build your very own lightsabers. The options that are at your disposal can be a little daunting at times, but thankfully the user interface is easy to pick up and comprehend.

Can you just enjoy it as a movie?

This report comes from the Official Star Wars Site!
Answered by: Ben Burtt

When you watch a movie for the first time, are you constantly paying attention to the sound design or editing, or can you just enjoy it as a movie?

I think I can enjoy it just as a movie unless I know the person who did the sound, then I am often aware of the work unless it is truly a superior film and I am completely drawn in.

Is there really a shaak in the...

This report comes from the Official Star Wars Site!
Answered by: John Knoll

Is there really a shaak in the Episode II asteroid field? Where is it?

Yes, it's in there. It's got the asteroid shader on it, so it's covered with craters and looks like all of the other asteroids. It's visible at the second "seismic charge" blast. If you look just to the lower right of the flash, at about 5 o'clock, there's a rounded object that is the shaak. You might be able to make out the legs and snout if you look carefully.

Another fun thing is that in the next shot after that, the big asteroid that's being shattered is Eros. While we were working on that scene, NASA was conducting a rendevous between the asteroid Eros and the NEAR Shoemaker space probe. They were returning great photos of it that we were studying, and they ultimately soft landed the probe on Eros where it rests today. Part of the data that was collected during the mission was a 3-D topographic map of the entire surface of Eros. I contacted one of the mission scientests at NASA, Gregory Shirah, asking if I could get a copy of the data set to use in the movie. He agreed, and that's the asteroid we shattered in that shot.
