Star
Wars Trivial Pursuit DVD |
Fans
who think they know every tiny detail regarding Boba Fett's ship
to Darth Vader's helmet may find themselves in a challenge of the
wits thanks to Hasbro's upcoming Trivial Pursuit DVD Star Wars
Saga Edition Game. The extensive game will include two DVDs with
700 video questions (including those featuring lucky fans who were
chosen during the auditions held at last year's San Diego
Comic-Con International), 1,800 card questions, four brand new
metallic pawn movers, game board, scoring wedges and instructions.
The questions -- ranging from beginner to uber-expert -- will
cover material from all six Star Wars movies in six new
categories:
* The Cantina: This section contains questions that pertain to
all the scenes, aliens, cameos, and more that give the films
atmosphere. This includes locations that are merely passed through
and characters that are on screen for a very short time.
* The Force: This section contains questions about causal events,
like who caused a memorable action or what happened at a specific
location.
* Heroes, Villains & Scoundrels: This section contains
questions that pertain to all main characters including leading
characters such as Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke
Skywalker, Darth Vader, as well as key supporting roles such as
C-3PO, Darth Maul, Leia, Jabba, etc.
* The Saga: This section contains questions that pertain to plot.
For example, players will be asked questions like "Who says
this line?" or "Who is missing from this scene?"
* A Galaxy Far, Far Away: This section contains questions that
pertain to significant locations including planets, cities,
specific buildings and features within them.
* Hyperspace: This is the wild card category where anything about
Star Wars could be asked.
It's no surprise that Star Wars fans like to try and stump one
another with the minutest of trivia, and Hasbro promises to
deliver challenging questions for all types of fans.
"We not only test player's knowledge with our brand new
Trivial Pursuit card questions, our DVD provides an entirely new
type of experience, allowing us to challenge fans in many new
ways," Hasbro Games Senior Game Designer Scott Clark says.
"For example, a player may be asked to identify a line a
character didn't say, or an image that is slowly revealed
onscreen, or an element in an image that doesn't belong, or even,
what happens next? They'll have some time to consider the question
and review hints we provide. But once that timer hits the 5 second
mark, everyone else they're playing with will have a chance to
jump in and answer."
Not only does the game have a unique style of game play, but
the trivia doesn't stop at the usual "who said what"
type of questions. In fact, many fans who are more skilled at
solving puzzles than remembering obscure facts may find themselves
in the winners circle more often than not.
"Every aspect of this game is brand new, from the game
board to the unique metal movers, to the cards and, of course, the
DVD," Clark reveals. "To ensure the most enjoyable
experience for novices and fanatics alike, we've focused
specifically on the six movies, balanced the card questions
between both ends of the spectrum, and our DVD questions are
structured in such a way that players are actually solving puzzles
over time more than being tested exclusively on their factual
knowledge. We don't really call our DVD questions, but we rather
refer to them as puzzles due to how we deliver the information.
For example, we may ask players to identify a ship or vehicle from
a progression of still images at different zoom levels, or ask
them to descramble of word, or identify a distorted vocal or
obscure sound. These are all questions that can only be asked
through the multimedia presentation available on a DVD."
Of course, beyond the mere fun of solving puzzles in the game,
players will also be thrilled to see other fans -- and not just
actors and film clips -- featured in the game. Thanks to the
overwhelming outpouring of fans auditioning to be included in the
game during the 2004 San Diego International Comic-Con, the game
features clips of fans in the act of asking questions about all
six movies on the DVD.
"The highlight of these unique elements is the inclusion
of some of the most dedicated Star Wars fans we've come across,
specifically the 21 finalists from our Comic-Con 2004 event,"
Clark says. "This was huge success for us, and we're proud
and honored to be able to feature the fans that have added such
dimension to Star Wars over the decades."
This game is recommended for ages 10 and older, and is
scheduled to hit stores during the release of the film in May.

Star Wars games and puzzles from Hasbro Games here. And be

Classic
Trilogy: Cine-Manga Style |
Here's
a first look at a trilogy of Cine-Manga books from Tokyopop
adapting the original Star Wars films A
New Hope Empire
Strikes Back Return
of the Jedi Inside
The Empire Strikes Back
The Cine-Manga series takes popular films and anime and
digitally freeze-frames the actual moving image, breaks it out
into comic-style panels in a lively and innovative layout, and
peppers the action with manga-style text balloons and sound
effects. For the first time, the Star Wars saga is getting the
Cine-Manga treatment, and there's no better place to start than
with the films that started it all.
These digest-sized books are due out this spring and are
exclusive to the UK, Germany and Japan. More Cine-manga books are
on their way, including the Clone Wars and the prequel trilogy.

Kenobi in Star Wars Insider #81 |
Years

Wars. In Episode III you'll understand the role he played in

one even greater. Actor Ewan McGregor reflects on his role as
Kenobi and the journey to bring the great Jedi to the finale of
the Star Wars prequel saga. Read about it in an exclusive

Talent
Behind the Sith: Behind-the-Scenes Stars Join Celebration III
Guest List |
The
magic of the Star Wars is created by a tremendous cast of talent,
not all of whom can be seen on the screen. Fans attending Star
Wars Celebration III April 21 -- 24 at the Indiana Convention
Center can look forward to hearing from some of the leading
individuals who have helped create the rich visual palette of the
saga.
Look for these gifted stars on different stages over the course
of the weekend. They'll be sharing insights into their roles in
making Episode III Revenge of the Sith, as well as answering
questions from the audience. Come prepared! It's rare to have so
many masters of their craft in one place over one weekend. Don
Bies, the Droid Unit Supervisor for Attack of the Clones and
Revenge of the Sith, has a long and close association with the
Star Wars galaxy. Bies started operating R2-D2 for Industrial
Light & Magic for a series of Japanese television commercials
in 1987. Since then, he has worked on countless films and
commercials for the special effects company, including Indiana
Jones and the Last Crusade, Congo, Starship Troopers, and the
famous "Darth Vader vs. the Energizer Bunny" commercial.
He was involved both on screen and off in the Special Editions,
including a stint as the notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett in one
of the new Jabba's palace scenes. Bies, also a senior model maker
at ILM, has worked on each of the Star Wars prequels. His
involvement with the fan community, and his willingness to share
time with groups like the R2-D2 Builders' group, has made him a
fan favorite.
Dan Gregoire helped lead the animatics team for Attack of the
Clones, and was the Previsualization Effects Supervisor for
Revenge of the Sith. Gregoire and his team worked throughout the
process of making the films, first creating the scenes of the
movie in a computer-animated form before filming began. Their
"rough cut" helped George Lucas and his crew visualize
how the film would play out on screen, thus helping with pre-edits
that saved both time and money on the set. Gregoire's animatics
were also used throughout the filming process to help determine
how scenes were filmed, and the editing process as well, helping
integrate footage from the set with coming special effects shots.
In addition to the Star Wars prequels Gregoire has worked on
Behind Enemy Lines, Moulin Rouge, and Titan AE.
Erik Tiemens was the Concept Design Supervisor for both Attack
of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, a title he shared with
artist Ryan Church. After producing the work that led to the look
and feel of the droid factory and the start of the Clone Wars in
Episode II, Tiemens went on to help create the varied and rich
environments for the multiple worlds of Episode III, as well as
the associated technical designs. The artist, who maintains his
roots in traditional landscape painting, has created concept work
for theme park rides, television, and numerous films including
Forrest Gump, Contact, Jurassic Park, and the Star Wars Special
Editions. Tiemens continues to work as a concept artist for
Industrial Light & Magic.

Status
of Episode III - Music Finished |
MTV.com
reported today that after 30 years, six movies, hundreds of dead
stormtroopers and an unfathomable number of zeros tacked on to the
end of his bank-account balance, George Lucas is finally ready to
put "Star Wars" to bed. At Sunday's Vanity Fair
Oscar party, the 60-year-old science-fiction legend insisted that
he couldn't be happier.
"It'll be nice to get things finished," Lucas said while
standing on the red carpet. As "Episode III: Revenge of the
Sith" prepares to hyperdrive into theaters on May 19, the
mind behind the franchise that boasts four of the 25
highest-grossing domestic movies of all time is putting the
finishing touches on the installment he claims will be the last in
the series.
"The film is finished, basically," reported Lucas.
"We just finished the music last week, and I'm going to mix
it next week. In a month, it will be pretty much finished."
Last month, Vanity Fair magazine promoted Lucas' upcoming
release via an Annie Leibovitz photo spread that featured the
writer/director/producer posing with stars and characters from all
six films. These days, any question about Jar Jar, Midi-Chlorians
or Greedo shooting first might mark the last time he has to
address such geek-boy concerns. Lucas insists that he hasn't had
to face those tearful final moments yet, but expects them to come
along soon enough.
"I'm just chugging along like I normally am," he said.
"We're getting very close now, but we're still working away
like crazy. It's hard to stand up, breathe and realize it's all
coming to an end." |

Warwick
Davis - Master of Ceremonies on the Celebration Saga Stage! |
Actor
Warwick Davis is headed to Indianapolis, and will preside as
Master of Ceremonies on the Saga Stage at the Indiana Convention
Center April 21 - 24. Always a favorite with audiences, Davis will
interview guests, host question and answer sessions, chat with
fans, and share insights into his own extensive film and stage
experience. In addition to presiding over the Saga Stage, Davis
also will host special guests in the 500 Ballroom.
Davis has been well known to Star Wars fans since his
career-starting performance as Wicket the Ewok in Return of the
Jedi, and in the television films Ewoks: Battle for Endor and
Caravan of Courage. The young actor moved to a leading role soon
after, portraying the title character in Willow, a film produced
by George Lucas with director Ron Howard.
Scores of roles on stage, television, and the big screen
followed. Davis played the evil title character in six
cult-favorite Leprechaun films, including the two most recent, Lep
in the Hood, and Back 2 tha Hood. He has been in each of the Harry
Potter films, playing the core cast role of Professor Flitwick, as
well as the Goblin Bank Teller in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's
Stone. Star Wars movie-goers saw Davis in several different parts
in The Phantom Menace. Most recently, Davis appeared in the
multi-award-winning film Ray portraying Oberon, the MC at
"The Rocking Chair," a small Seattle nightclub where Ray
Charles makes his first attempt at an independent career.
In 1995 Davis established Willow Personal Management, "The
Biggest Agency for Short Actors in the World." Recently the
company added representation for actors over 7 feet tall,
referring to that branch of the business as "Willow
Tall."
The year 2005 will be a big year for Davis, and a great year
for his fans. Watch for his return as Flitwick in Harry Potter and
the Goblet of Fire, and for his new role as Marvin the Paranoid
Android in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Davis' own film
Agent One Half, which stars the actor as "Half the agent;
twice the man," is currently in production. For more on the
talented actor and his many projects, check out his official

Troop
Movements: Animating Republic Commandos |
The
galaxy is a dangerous place, as experienced by the crack team of
clone commando operatives in next month's release of Star Wars
Republic Commando from LucasArts. To convey the threats faced by
elite Republic troops on special missions, the Star Wars galaxy is
given a grittier edge in the squad-based first-person shooter
game. This realism extends to the movements and tactics of the
star troops themselves -- the four members of Delta Squad, the
player's primary instrument in the game.
"Republic Commando has tried to really focus in on the
military aspect of Star Wars and get that sense of realism in the
game," says lead animator David Bogan. "We really wanted
these clone commandos to feel like an elite squad and get them to
feel like a lethal weapon. But, as animators, we don't get to feel
like soldiers often."
Enter Joe Bacciocco, a Special Ops Instructor and veteran with
over 30 years of military experience. Bacciocco put the team of
animators through an abbreviated boot camp to understand the
psychology and reality of squad-based troop maneuvers.
"I start with something very basic: safety rules,"
explains Bacciocco. "I go into how to grip a weapon safely
and how to draw it. How to move with a handgun and how to move
with a long gun. I try and make it as close to reality as I
possibly can."
With teams of four -- the same size as the featured squad in
the game -- Bacciocco developed drills for scenarios commonly
encountered in the game. "We went through breaching a door,
whether a single door or double door, and we went in single file.
It's very important to go in at once as one unit, making sure
their weapons are carried in a functional way, making sure
everyone knows their strengths and weaknesses. It's very
dangerous, because once you go into a room, you're going into a
room where there's adversaries on the other side who are willing
to kill you. This is why I take this kind of thing -- even though
it's not live fire training -- very seriously."
The first-hand experience gave the animators an appreciation of
squad cohesion and juggling the many unknown variables that can
affect the outcome of a mission. "Armed" with blaster
prop replicas, the animators skulked the halls of LucasArts
offices, motioning to each other to proceed and developing tactics
to achieve their objectives.
"Walking through the exercises with Joe, you get a sense
of what an actual soldier feels walking through unknown, dangerous
environments," says Bogan. "You get a sense of how
vulnerable you are and how much you have to rely on your
squadmates. We tried to get that into the game. We really tried to
make it look like the commandos got each other's back in
there."
