GameSpy Galaxies Feature

Gamespy begins a three part feature on Galaxies Jedi, covering the implementation and a certain amount of theroy behind the ideas and concept of MMO Games and the three basic game designs, power-gamer, role-playing, and theme parks. The first part of the three part feature is a three page article covering Philosphy of MMO Games and how Galaxies fairs with quests and player generated content.

As a result, gamers looking for that kind of experience found that Star Wars: Galaxies had quite a bit to offer. Many players enjoyed building up their tailoring or architectural skills, building shops, stocking inventory, and advertising their wares. Others put on fashion shows, fireworks displays, threw in-game "Life Day" parties, or (after vehicles were put in) ran Boonta Eve races on Tatooine. The unfortunate side effect of this, though, was that combat classes didn't have much to do when the game was released. Killing monsters didn't offer much more than slight skill point rewards that took a tremendously long time to increase your power. The majority of the game's theme parks and quest-oriented areas were broken on release, and those that did work didn't offer much in the way of compelling content.

The feature proves to be a very interesting read, so check it out by hitting the link above and get an inside look at the philosophy of MMO games and how Galaxies stands up.

Cut Scenes Updated

Today I have updated the Episode IV Cut Scenes section and the Movies section. I have been wanting to revamp and update the Cut Scenes section for several years now and with the upcoming release of the Original Trilogy on DVD I felt now was the time. I have finally started gathering my material together and creating pages that will help you understand scenes that were lost rather than just providing pictures as before. This will be a very long process, but I wanted to at least get it started. I hope you find these scenes as interesting as I do and maybe they will be included on the upcoming DVD. Enjoy!

Star Wars Jedi Trial

The Official Star Wars Site has announced a new book is coming.
The Separatists have taken Praesitlyn, a crucial Republic communications hub. To take it back, the Jedi have dispatched Anakin Skywalker under the command of Corellian Jedi, Nejaa Halcyon. Their clone forces join those of Freedom's Sons, an independent fighting group allied to the Jedi.

In the thick of a truly volatile battlefront, Anakin is surrounded by rule-benders. It will be a trial to emerge from this crucible victorious, and as a full Jedi Knight, without giving sway to the temptation to bend -- or violently shatter -- the strict edicts of the Jedi Code.

Star Wars: Jedi Trial is a Clone Wars novel, written by David Sherman and Dan Cragg. It is scheduled for hardcover release from Del Rey Books this October.

Fan Club Changes?

The Official Star Wars Fan Club has made an interesting announcement and I hope this will be a good thing.

Dear Star Wars Fan Club Member:

There are some exciting changes in the works for the Official Star Wars Fan Club! We’re not quite ready to reveal all of the details just yet, but keep an eye on www.starwars.com in the coming weeks for the full details.

In the meantime, we've put a temporary hold on accepting new memberships or subscriptions. All renewals and new subscriptions received before March 8, 2004 will be processed as usual. Orders received by mail after March 8 will be held until the changes are announced.

Star Wars Insider will continue to be published – we recently shipped Insider 75 (May) to the printer, and we’re hard at work on Insider 76 (June/July). Current Fan Club members will continue to receive their subscriptions. Also, we’re pleased to announce that the new 2004 membership kit will be shipped to all current members in March.

We think that you will be excited about the new direction for the Official Star Wars Fan Club. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to answer any queries about this until announcements are made on starwars.com.

Thank you for your continued support!

Lisa Stevens
President, The Official Star Wars Fan Club
Well, I guess we will know what all of the secrecy is about soon enough.

June 2004 Comics

The Official Star Wars Site has provided a look at what Dark Horse Comics has in store for Star Wars fans in June. The Rebellion has scattered to all corners of the galaxy to avoid the inevitable Imperial reprisals after the Battle of Yavin. Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Princess Leia are aboard the Millennium Falcon, along with a young Rebel soldier named Deena Shan. They stumble across a distress signal originating from a dark jungle moon, and there they find the terrible and dangerous remains of a tragedy dating back from the Clone Wars.

Star Wars: Empire #22, by Welles Hartley and Jeff Johnson, is scheduled for release on June 2.

With prices on their heads, Mace Windu leads a team of Jedi warriors to teach the Bounty Hunters' Guild some respect. But these bounties aren't upsetting just the loyal Jedi of the Republic. Count Dooku has dispatched the renegade Quinlan Vos to put an end to the postings. Are Republic and Separatists working to the same end, or is there more to this situation than meets the eye?

Star Wars: Republic #66, by John Ostrander, Jan Duursema and Dan Parsons, features the second half of the two-part "Show of Force" storyline. It is scheduled for release on June 23.

When you live for centuries, you come to develop long friendships. Two hundred years ago, Yoda befriended the king of a world. Now, that king has sided with the Separatists, and it's Yoda's mission to lead a clone army to bring that world back to the Republic fold. The diminutive Jedi Master must face suicidal enemy soldiers, hotheaded young Jedi, single-minded clone commanders and more as he seeks a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Star Wars: Jedi -- Yoda is a double-sized Clone Wars special, written by Jeremy Barlow with art by Hoon. It is scheduled for release on June 30.

It's indy meets Star Wars, and we're not talking about a certain globetrotting archeologist. Some of the hottest talents from the independent comic scene are contributors to the next installment of the Star Wars Tales anthology series, and many have their eyes set squarely on Jar Jar Binks.

Tony (Sock Monkey) Millionaire takes on Jar Jar's long-suffering father; Peter (Hate) Bagge exposes Jar Jar's Senatorial career; James (American Elf) Kochalka chronicles an assassination attempt on Jar Jar Binks' sippy cup; and Gilbert (Love & Rockets) Hernandez and Bob (Minimum Wage) Fingerman tell tales that have nothing to do with everyone's favorite whipping Gungan. Plus much, much more!

Reclaim your indy cred with Star Wars Tales #20, scheduled for release on June 30.

In July, the topsy-turvy "what if" tale of Star Wars: Infinities -- Return of the Jedi comes out as a trade paperback. Written by Adam Gallardo, with art by Ryan Benjamin and Salem Crawford, this alternate history take on Episode VI features a botched rescue of Han Solo, and the capture of Luke Skywalker by Darth Vader in the swamps of Dagobah. Find out what happens as the universe twists and turns in new directions in this collection of the four-part series. It is scheduled for release on July 28.
