Half Way to Episode II

Friday, March 8th was the half way point for John and Jeff, the two guys in Seattle, WA waiting outside the Cinerama movie theatre for the new Star Wars film.

On this date, they will have waited 67 days with a remaining 67 days to go. They have already broken a world record for the longest wait outside of a movie theatre and plan to take the record to a 4.5 month time scale.  The current un-official record was held in 1999 by a group of fans waiting outside a movie theatre in Los Angeles, CA for 37 days.  Guinness World Records has been in communication with John and Jeff and is looking into creating a special category just for this record.

To date, these two lads have had to face snow, hail, gusty winds, some sun but lots of rain.  They have been robed, harassed and at the same time praised and honored.  They started out sitting on the sidewalk, then progressed to a tent in the parking lot.  There they will stay till tickets go on sale.  "We're going to do the same thing we did for EPISODE I, have everyone camp out in the parking lot for tickets" says John Guth, President of the Seattle Star Wars Society.  He continues, "we had such a good time back in '99 and I personally want to have a better time for EPII."

The Waiting for Star Wars project is an official event sponsored but the Seattle Star Wars Society and run by its members.  "What most people do not realize is that we do have permission to be here" says John.  "This is an organized event put on by a membership driven, non-profit organization to help raise money for needy kids in the Seattle area.  Unfortunately, some have interpreted what we are doing as a publicity stunt for Lucasfilm (which it is not) and others have mistaken us for being two homeless guys with nothing better to do.  This obviously is not the case.  We enjoy the fact that we can help while at the same time have fun while waiting for, what we perceive is going to be, a great movie."
