20 Years of LucasArts

LucasArts has announced a celebration for the 20 years of computer entertainment! Here is more information about the event:

"This year, LucasArts celebrates its 20th year as a leader in interactive entertainment. After two decades, our goal remains the same: to deliver the highest quality gaming experiences imaginable.

Throughout our company's history, from our humble beginnings in the "Computer Division" of Lucasfilm, we have continually focused on using emerging technology to pioneer a new form of interactive entertainment. Consistent with Lucasfilm's movie heritage, our goal has been to develop games that combine vital film elements - compelling storytelling, engaging characters and vivid settings - with strong gameplay, the element which distinguishes games from more traditional, linear mediums.

In 1982 we hired our first employees, and they began their initial exploratory work in game development. By the end of that year, the group had grown, further defined its goals, investigated the latest technology (Atari 2600 and 5200 at the time) and, of course, played lots of games. From that sprung the first prototypes of the games now known as Rescue on Fractalus and Ballblazer. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Please join us as we celebrate our 20th Anniversary from now through December. We will update this site on a regular basis - highlighting the games, people and events which have combined to make LucasArts the leading company it is today.

As LucasArts begins its third decade, we will stay true to our legacy and continue to take you places yet to be imagined."
