The Viceroy-class Star Destroyer is far more powerful than expected. With completely upgraded systems and more automation, the Viceroy can carry far fewer crew than other ships of its size.

The vessel is much faster, and has armaments designed for small scale assaults, and whilst not normally seen in anything but a support role for larger fleet movements, the Viceroy can still operate on its own or in pairs.

The Viceroy is used to patrol and secure systems projecting the will of the Emperor to places which do not require the full might of a Star Destroyer. It is these vessels which protect shipping from pirates, and respond to the needs of the planets under the Empire's control. They are powerful vessels, although not in the league of full blown destroyers and command ships.

The ship has a totally new weapons system (which has remained classified) that includes the capability of creating its own interdiction field (much like the Interdictor Cruiser but on a smaller scale), via a hidden interdictor module present towards the aft of the vessel. This means that the normally seen bulge of the Immobilizer 418, is missing from this craft.

Also present is a revolutionary new engine system which allows the Viceroy to negate the need for the normally present reactor bulge. This new reactor is around 2.5 times smaller than a standard reactor used to generate the same amount of power.

The fighter compliment is small (6 squadrons), but allows the Viceroy adequate fighter cover with other capital ships of its size.
